East St. Hall presents:
Unplugged: Emily Edrosa
Thursday 29th July 2021
9:00pm - 11:00pm
Emily Edrosa returned to her hometown of Tāmaki Makaurau in October last year after four years in Los Angeles, armed with her first solo album Another Wave is Coming, the product of a labour of love and determination which spanned three years and two halves of the globe.
Before she left for the US, Edrosa had built up a solid fan base in New Zealand with Street Chant, who started out as Mean Street in 2008. From their very first demo Mean Street gained attention, with ‘You Do the Maths’ (which later appeared on Street Chant’s debut album Means) quickly hitting the 95bFM Top 10. Their reputation continued to grow: they supported Flying Nun legends The 3Ds on a New Zealand tour, and played across Australasia with Nashville band The Dead Weather. Their debut album Means came out in August 2010 and won the inaugural Critics’ Choice Award at the 2010 New Zealand Music Awards.
Street Chant travelled to the US three times, playing the CMJ Music Marathon, South by Southwest, and did a West Coast tour with The Lemonheads. It gives us great pleasure to have Emily Edrosa perform at East St. Hall at 9pm, Thursday 12th August, in the canteen.
